Well, it’s that time again!  You know the Carolina Beach Music Award Sham.  You heard me! Sham!! Why Shame?  The answer is very simple.  Just look around at the REAL award shows and see how many times these same folks repeat in the same category nearly every year or every other year.  How many of those folks are selected to receive those awards by folks other than their contemporaries within the industry?  How many of them are awarded awards for nothing but covers or at least mostly covers?  In short what feat justifies these folks being held up as the Best and Brightest in Carolina Music?  Nothing no One that has professional credentials that would at very least mimics the Grammys and other such national awards except perhaps fan loyalty and endurance.  But in the grand scheme of things thos two attributes mean nothing as related to awards.  But hey it does mean something as related to income and perhaps that is what the CBMA’s are all about;  An award for simply surviving, not growing or improving the music from a large center stage.  Yep, that’s it. It’s all about saving face by presenting ones self as a Big Fish in a somewhat small polluted pond!    Oh, well I guess I’ve said enough for now.  I just get really distressed when I see all the hype over an event that does nothing to improve or enhance the real artists who performed, are continuing to perform and contribute to the bigger picture on a national basis.  As a friend of mine and many of you who read my commentary says “CMBA’s are a self directed at a boy for a select few by a select few”.  I think that pretty much says it all.
